The wait is over and the rumors are true. Apple announced today that the iPhone 7 will have upgraded cameras, a new home button and an improved screen, but it will no longer have an auxiliary port/headphone jack. Rather, you will have to use either Bluetooth headphones or special headphones that connect via the “lightning” port. But not to worry, an adapter will come in the box upon purchase to connect your old 3.5mm headphones if you would like (you'll just need to purchase an additional accessory if you want to charge and listen at the same time).
Apple released photos of their new headphone set that plug into the charging port and will come with the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus. They also unveiled their new “AirPods,” a two-piece, completely wireless headphone set you probably lost just thinking about (available for $159). The case they come in doubles as a battery pack and they pair instantly to your device right out of the case. In place of the auxiliary port, the iPhone will have stereo speakers for a fuller sound.

AirPods have a 4-6 hour life with up to 24 hours charge in the case.
The camera is said to be “60 percent faster and 30 percent more efficient,” featuring a new, high-tech 12-megapixel camera with added wide-angle and telephoto capability on the 7 Plus. Both models will also have a brighter flash, a faster sensor and optical image stabilization to keep photos steadier. The front camera has also been upgraded to 7-megapixels, providing a higher resolution and image stabilization as well for better selfies and videos.
The home button will now be force-sensitive and less like a button, much like the trackpad on a MacBook. The display is said to be 25% brighter and express a wider array of color. The A10 fusion processor they’ve added is also supposed to be 40% faster than the chip installed in the last iteration of the iPhone. Additionally, the new phone is said to be both dust-proof and water-proof - the extent of which remains to be seen.
Apple also presented a wide array of their other upcoming projects, including the latest edition of the Apple Watch, which will now be Pokémon Go compatible. Today’s reveal was a shining moment for Apple, as they try to bounce back from their worst quarterly sales report since the iPhone debuted. Time will tell if the risks they made will transfer to an increase in sales.
Pre-orders are now being taken, but you will be able to purchase the phone in stores on September 16th. The iPhone 7 will cost $649 and the 7 Plus will cost $769. Both will be available in 32GB, 128GB, and 256GB.
